There are a number of hostels and youth hostels beginning to dot Medellins landscape. They are becoming very popular with the budget minded and backpacker travelers to Medellin Colombia.
Some are very typical Youth Hostels offering both dormitory, semi private and private rooms while several are very nicely furnished bed and breakfast type of establishments. The Hostels located in and around the Parque Lleras area of Medellins' El Poblado community seem to be favored by most travelers although better prices can be found in other parts of the city. Parque Lleras offers great restaurants, clubs, discos and nightlife all geared toward a younger clientele.

The Tiger Tavern Sports Bar offers American and International Cuisine at very affordable prices and is becoming a very popular place on Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Monday Nights for you American football enthusiasts. They are also one of the few places in Medellin that offer an American style breakfast

Hostal Tamarindo is a very quaint but very well managed hostal three blocks from Parque Lleras. It has mostly dormitory style rooms and a private room as well and can sleep up to 18 people. The owner Operator, Natalie, is bi-lingual and has added some very nice "homey" touches to this Medellin Hostel.
We particularly like the very peaceful and tranquil garden terrace on the third floor and the covered first floor atrium.
Natalies organization skills are apparent in how she manages kitchen privileges, has local information brochures, places of interest to visit, brochures for food delivery and business cards of local establishments.
